Northern France, or the Cote d’Opale, is the most popular region in France for travelling golfers. This isn’t just due to its convenient location but also the quality of the golf courses, hotels and resorts. There are 14 golf courses, including three ranked in the European Top 100, a mix of villages, towns, beach resorts and cities to stay and, away from the fairways, a great selection of places to eat, drink and visit that we are happy to recommend, just ask for our suggestions.
Heading south from Calais first you reach Wimereux, a traditional town with a great links golf course up on the cliffs. Next is Hardelot, a popular resort with two superb golf courses. Le Touquet is the busiest coastal resort with a vibrant high street, two golf courses and a wide sandy beach. Further south is Fort Mahon, location of Belle Dune golf course and heading inland a little is Montreuil-sur-Mer, a very pretty walled town and home to several great restaurants.
Travelling inland from Calais leads you to Saint Omer. A traditional town with the golf course nearby. Arras is an hour from Calais, it is a picturesque city, well worth a visit and a round of golf. Lille, a former European Capital of Culture is a large city with plenty going on and a selection of golf courses in the surrounding area.
