Overview
As this course is framed for its association with Nigel Mansell, it is only logical to drive around it rather than walk. It is actually pretty hilly but it won’t wear you out, at least not physically. Mentally, chronic hookers might find their ball in a deep trouble on at least one half of the holes.
Opened in 1992, this 18 hole course is now mature, although the well-wooded countryside has retained its typical Devonshire landscape. Hole through the woods alternate with holes over open space where water hazards beckon (on 7 holes). Add to this some pretty huge and deep bunkers with high lips and excellent greens laid to USGA standards and you can feel a very distinct American influence where you seldom get the chance to roll the ball onto the putting surface. This is a very interesting test where you should play from the tee boxes designed for your level of ability.
Beginners will certainly feel more comfortable on the neighbouring 9 hole, unless they prefer a little fishing, the swimming pool, tennis courts or aerobics avalible in this nice resort.
