Overview
Established in 1885, The Royal Dublin Golf Club is situated on an Island Nature Reserve of great environmental significance – Bull Island – in Dublin Bay. Designed originally by the famous golf architect Harry Colt, the course was redesigned and upgraded for the modern game by Martin Hawtree at a cost of €4.5 million.
The course now stretches to 7,269 yards and has been redesigned in a manner which has shown respect to its inheritance, while challenging the longest hitters. Hawtree made several significant changes. He completely redesigned the 6th, 7th and 8th holes and included 18 new raised and contoured greens. Accompanying this raising of greens is a series of run-offs from which golfers of all levels must demonstrate imagination, touch and ability to achieve the coveted ‘up and down’. This very traditional golf links is a sterling test of all golfing skills – ball striking and, most of all, course management. The course is fronted by the famous 5km-Dollymount beach and is only 7km from Dublin city centre.
