Overview

This is not the best-known links in Scotland, but it is a good one. Firstly, for its antiquated charm, because like the Old course at St Andrews, it starts and ends in town, in Lossiemouth, the name by which the course is also sometimes known.

Founded by a group of whisky distillers, a large part of this “old” course was designed by Old Tom Morris, although patient changes have given the layout its present-day look, custom-made for the requirements of modern golf. Players of all levels will enjoy this course, and the less experienced golfers can get acquainted with the subtle side of links golf without too much to worry about. Moray is also home to the “New course”, upgraded to 18 holes by Henry Cotton in 1979, a very pleasant layout but without the cachet of its “old” stable mate. The main difficulties are small greens and narrow fairways. We would also emphasis the mildness of the climate here and the superb views over the Moray Firth.

Just taking a wander through the handsome city centre is pretty enjoyable too; appreciate Inverness Castle and St Andrew’s Cathedral, then stroll along the banks of the River Ness, crossing the suspension bridge for some peace and relaxation on the Ness Islands. Ah, bliss!

Stretching out on the north east coast, Aberdeen is bordered…
