Overview
Legend has it that Mary Queen of Scots played golf “over the fields of Seton” in 1567 in vicinity of the present course, shortly after the death of her husband Lord Darnley. The original course here was designed by Harry Colt some 350 years later. James Braid and Mackenzie Ross made alterations to the course which in more recent times has undergone another makeover, this time at the hands of Donald Steel.
Many of the cross-bunkers from the original design have now been relocated further from the teeing areas to take in account the advances in technology. The course is now less penal for the bogey golfer and more challenging for the scratch player. It always gives an impression of tranquillity, beauty and elegance, and a breath-taking view over the Firth of Forth. It is as much parkland as links, and is unusual in not having any par 5 holes, even if some of the long par 4s could be considered as such. The greens are good and receptive to well-hit approach shots, whether pitched or rolled.

Once you have found the destination, hotel and golf courses that you would like to play, either fill in the ‘Request a Quote’ box or call us on 01371 483444. We will get back to you with a quotation by email. If this is to your approval call us so that we can run through your preferred itinerary and fine tune the details, we will then make the reservations and send you a confirmed itinerary. To secure the booking we will require a deposit of £50 per person with the balance payable eight weeks before you travel. It’s a simple as that!
