Overview
A fairly modest course prior to 1962, Hillside took on a new dimension with the acquisition of some spectacular dune-land which Fred Hawtree fashioned and which became incorporated into the layout essentially from the 10th hole onward. A part of the course is lined by pine-trees, forming a rather unusual setting for a links course. The first holes run along the railway line and set a “down-the-middle” tone from the very beginning.
The dunes and tall rough are more concentrated on the back nine and the fairways run between the dune valleys. In such dramatic landscape where the ever changing wind can have such a diverse influence on the ball, it is not a bad idea to develop a low trajectory in order to stay on track. Featuring several quite elevated tee-boxes, Hillside looks very natural and it is a joy to tread the spring seaside tuf. It is certainly not the best known links course outside England but it is a must to play alongside neighbouring Birkdale.

If this is to your approval call us so that we can run through your preferred itinerary and fine tune the details, we will then make the reservations and send you a confirmed itinerary.
