Overview
Here we are out in the country, with wild peacocks strutting around the club house, jet fighters flying overhead to disturb your putting stroke, and an obligatory stop at tea-time to taste the delicious cakes.
High Post is a hilly course which can be tough on the legs and on your score, but the chalky terrain drains well and doesn’t get heavy after rain. The fairways are wide and the tough not too exacting, except when you get too close to the hawthorn bushes.
High Post had a quiet and underrated profile until Peter Alliss drew attention to the course by rating the 9th hole as one of the best 18 holes in England. Amongst the par 4s the 16th also stands out with its long uphill climb. With only two par 5s here, birdies can be hard to come by. There are not many bunkers, but they are well located, although the hollows and grassy sand-hills are often a tougher proposition than playing from sand.
