Overview
Located within the Quinta da Deveza in the northern part of Portugal and close to the town of Amarante after which the course is obviously named, the Amarante golf course’s local scenery is eye-catching with striking hills and vine planted terraced slopes on the River Tamega offering panoramic landscapes with every turn.
In accordance with the local topographical nature of the location and the fact that the course is 600 metres above sea level, the fairways tend to either slope upwards or downwards making use of every undulation in its design. Also, because of this governing factor, there are seven par-3 holes and three par-5 holes created. As to be expected the 1st hole fairway slopes deeply downwards and although it measures 545 yards, it plays a lot shorter. The 18th is somewhat shorter at 491 yards and in contrast slopes upwards making the fairways seem like they go on forever ensuring you need you’re a-Game until the very last shot.
The 12th is 489 yards and requires a strong shot to pass over its lake on the right and thus avoiding going left into out-of-bounds. Just to tease the golfer this green is well surrounded by four inviting bunkers!
