Overview
Modern club houses unquestionably lack the charm of their older counterparts, but they are more comfortable. Following this same modern trend, many clubs have also laid out driving ranges like here to cater to an ever-greater number of players. In 1961, Sand Moor was given a face lift and at the same time re-styled, adhering most respectfully to the original layout of Alister Mackenzie on one side of Alwoodley lane.
The lane is rather hilly, but as the use of buggies requires a medical certificate, we will simply recommend an electric trolley. Laid out over moorland, the feeling of space here is very pleasant and the rough not too hard on your game, but some of the clumps of trees and carefully placed fairway bunkers do their job very well. We noted the excellence of the par 3s on what is a very good test of golf, albeit now a little on the short side for the better players.
