Garl, was the venue for the 2000 Johnnie Walker Classic PGA tournament won by Tiger Woods and again hosted the same event in 2004. The 18 holes at Alpine golf simply put make up the most challenging golf course in Bangkok, and by a wide margin!
Thai Country Club – 18 holes par 72 (7151 yards)
Bangkok | Thailand
Thai Country Club is a prestigious member’s course is managed by Peninsula Hotels. Thai County is one of the best in Bangkok as it sets the standard for service excellence. Designed under USPGA standards by Denis Griffiths, the course opened in December 1996. The design adapts to everyday member use up to very tough challenges for major international and PGA tournaments. The 7,157-yard course was the venue for the 1997 Asian Honda Classic, where Tiger Woods cruised to a comfortable 10-stroke victory after shooting a final round of 68 for a 20 under-par total of 268 for the championship.
Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai – 18 holes par 72 (7541 yards)
Chiang Mai| Thailand
The Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai (formerly Chiang Mai Lamphun Golf Club) comprises some 450 rai of land that nestles in a valley between the mountain ranges in the heart of the San Kampaeng natural forests. It is undoubtedly one of the golf courses in Chiang Mai that boast of the best in natural beauty. The design of the course, by world-famous golf course designer Mr Ron M Garl, was inspired by the magnificent hills in its horizon. No matter where you are on the course, you are sure to enjoy nature at her best: exquisite lush green from the nearby forests – which comprise a rich assembly of trees such as the golden teakwood, the Dipterocarpus Alatus and many more other species.
Chiangmai Highlands Golf and Spa Resort – 27 holes par 72/36 (7003/3601 yards)
Chiangmai | Thailand
The Chiang Mai Highlands Golf Club opened in 2005 and significantly added to the quality of Chiang Mai’s golf courses. Soon thereafter in 2007, Chiang Mai Highlands Golf & Spa Resort was voted #3 for “Best New Golf Course in Asia” by Asian Golf Monthly. In 2013, Chiang Mai Highlands was awarded by the same publication as the “Best Value For Money Golf Course in Asia”. An additional 9 holes was opened for play in 2015 and the new holes up-the-standard of golf even higher at this premium course.
Grand Prix Golf Club – 18 holes par 72 (7136 yards)
Kanachaburi| Thailand
Grand Prix Golf Club is a well-conditioned golf course in Thailand’s Kanachaburi Province that will take the breath away. The course is set in a vast open space with panoramic views of Burmese mountain ranges in the distance. A large river bisects the course and adds to the native scenery. It takes around 30 minutes to reach the site from Kanchanaburi town or 2 hours from Bangkok. Grand Prix makes excellent use of significant mounding and undulations through the fairways and greens. Many holes have split fairways offering golfers both a more challenging and a relaxing approach to the greens. Multi-tiered greens have lots of break so it pays to select the correct club for each approach shot; otherwise 3-putts or worse is likely.
Banyan Golf Club – 18 holes par 72 (7361yards)
Hua Hin | Thailand
Built among a pineapple plantation, Banyan Golf Club in Hua Hin opened in October 2008. Immediately following, the course was awarded 2009 Best New Course in Asia Pacific by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly. Since then Banyan golf course and clubhouse has consistently claimed ‘Top 3 in Thailand’ awards and been featured in the ‘Rolex Top 1000’ in the World. The world class 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Thailand golf course architect Pirapon Namatra from Golf East and is known to be one of the best layouts in the country. The course provides for spectacular mountain and ocean views from most all of the holes and is one of the best layouts in the area. Each hole has 6 tee boxes making the course more or less challenging depending on ability and tee selection. Strategically placed water hazards, waste bunkers, and sand traps are spread out throughout the course. Significant use of native pineapple groves make local fruits come into play if straying too far off the fairways. Lush Zoysia grassed fairways, a local grass but a rarely seen on golf courses in Thailand, are a pleasure to hit from as balls sit up nicely.
Black Mountain Golf Club – 18 holes par 72 (7343 yards)
Hua Hin | Thailand
Black Mountain was transformed from lush jungle and pineapple plantations and is located around 25 minutes west of Hua Hin. It is set in a valley surrounded by large black granite rock covered mountains. The Hua Hin golf course was the site for Asian PGA tour events in 2009 and 2010 and the Europe versus Asia match play Royal Trophy in 2011. In 2012 Black Mountain was selected as one of the 100 best golf courses outside the USA by Golf Digest magazine. In 2014 Black Mountain hosted The Thailand Classic, the first European Tour event to be staged in Thailand. The Thailand Classic is now a major fixture on the European and Asian Tours.
