Saadiyat Beach Golf Club offers one of the UAE’s most memorable coastal golf experiences, with an 18-hole championship course set beside the white sands and turquoise waters of Saadiyat Island. Originally designed by golfing legend Gary Player, the par-72 layout can stretch from 5,290 to 7,784 yards across its different teeing options. The back nine has recently been redesigned through a collaboration between Gary Player Design and Nicklaus Design, refreshing the challenge while retaining the course’s distinctive coastal character.
Wide fairways may appear welcoming, but more than 60 bunkers, native sandy waste areas and three saltwater lakes place a premium on thoughtful positioning. Golfers who choose the right line from the tee will enjoy clearer approaches, while overly ambitious shots can quickly find sand, water or awkward lies among the dunes. Coastal breezes also influence club selection and ball flight, ensuring the course can play differently from one day to the next.
The redesigned back nine includes an improved driveable par-four 10th, repositioned tees and new holes shaped around sculpted dunes and views towards the Arabian Gulf. Multiple teeing positions make Saadiyat enjoyable for mixed-handicap groups, while the full championship setup provides a serious challenge for stronger players.
Wildlife is another memorable part of the experience, with hundreds of gazelles roaming freely around the course alongside migratory birds. Saadiyat is also the UAE’s only Audubon Certified Cooperative Sanctuary golf course, recognising its environmental management and protection of the surrounding habitat.
Practice facilities and PGA coaching are available through the Viya Golf Performance Institute. After the round, golfers can enjoy food and drinks at Hawksbill Restaurant before exploring Saadiyat Island’s beaches, waterfront dining and cultural attractions, including Louvre Abu Dhabi.
