Meldrum House
Inverurie
Meldrum House is a fantastic choice for golfers looking to combine luxury country-house accommodation with private parkland golf in the heart of Aberdeenshire. Set within a beautiful historic estate on the outskirts of Oldmeldrum, around 30 minutes north-west of Aberdeen, it offers the sort of peaceful setting that immediately feels like a proper Scottish golf escape.
There are 51 bedrooms across the estate, with each part of Meldrum House offering something slightly different. The historic Manor House is home to just ten individually designed rooms filled with character and original features, while the Estate Rooms provide a more contemporary feel with spacious interiors and impressive views. The beautifully restored Grade A-listed Stables offer another option, combining the character of the old estate buildings with modern comforts.
For golf groups wanting more independence, we particularly like Chain Lodge. This private five-bedroom property has its own kitchen, dining room and lounge, making it ideal for groups who want to stay together while still having full access to everything at Meldrum House.
Golf is one of the biggest reasons to stay. Hotel guests have access to the private Knight's Course, an 18-hole championship parkland layout designed by Graeme Webster and stretching beyond 7,000 yards from the back tees. Set across 240 acres, the course winds through mature Aberdeenshire countryside with water appearing on ten holes and plenty of strategic bunkering throughout.
Importantly, this is not simply a hotel sitting beside a public golf course. Access to the Knight's Course is reserved for club members and qualifying hotel guests, helping create a quieter and more exclusive golf experience. There is also an outstanding 24-acre practice facility with 13 driving bays featuring Toptracer technology, along with extensive short-game areas.
Dining is another highlight of a stay. Seton's showcases ingredients inspired by Aberdeenshire's natural larder, while the Clubhouse offers more relaxed food overlooking the 1st, 17th and 18th holes. Our favourite place for a post-round drink has to be the atmospheric Cave Bar, parts of which date back around 800 years. It feels exactly right for enjoying a dram after a day on the course.
Meldrum House also makes an excellent base for a wider north-east Scotland golf holiday. Aberdeen is within easy reach, while some of the region's outstanding coastal links can be combined with the Knight's Course to create an itinerary offering both parkland and traditional Scottish links golf.
For couples and golf groups looking for character, excellent food and private golf on the doorstep, Meldrum House is an easy recommendation.
